SPECIFIC
THEMES FOR CD: THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN:
Even though
we all have pain and heartache and disappointments in this world, people have
a dependable source of strength by turning to the Lord.
We
also have an internal hope that is built on the character of a loving, faithful
Lord, which is open to all who accept Jesus into their lives as Lord and Savior.
The Lord has plans for us to carry out for Him, which will result in an inner
joy which nothing can take away.

through all generations.
Overview
of THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN CD
When asked, Sunday
Shoes described their music as being "at the intersection where rock, blues, country
rock, and soul collide." Their web-site describes
their 4th CD, THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN as offering 12 well-crafted songs that instill
hope, lift the spirit, and point us home."
This
reviewer heartily agrees! Sunday Shoes has created a collection of songs which
reflects their evolving ministry and their own musical and spiritual development
as Christian music artists. For, THIS
SIDE OF HEAVEN is truly a delightful, creative blend of contemporary, acoustic,
blues, electric rock and soul, with a touch of gospel in some songs, presented
in solid, strong, balanced compositions, which not only please the rock, blues
and soul music lovers, but also reach out to a broader audience as well with music
which will bless and uplift, fulfilling the goals of this collection of songs
for a mainstream audience. Many songs on this album would be a great addition
to contemporary services, with some even being welcomed at traditional services
as well. There is something for everyone on this album, even in this blended genre
format, which showcases SUNDAY SHOES unique musical sound and style.
SUNDAY SHOES' CD, THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN presents songs which show spiritual and musical growth and the inspiration
of the Holy Spirit, even more enjoyable than the songs found on SUNDAY SHOES'
last album, SIGNIFICANCE. This musical project resulted in not only presenting
strong, effective, inspiring vocal performances, meaningful lyrics and memorable
melodies, but also a most enjoyable, impressive and diverse musical accompaniments
which also shine with inspiration, spirituality and creativity, providing a most
effective musical foundation, supporting beautifully the SUNDAY SHOES sound.
It is rare to find stellar vocal performances paired with such inspiring musical
compositions, which come together so effectively. Great use of dynamics adds a
dramatic power and umph. The combined fusion of vocal performances, messages,
melody, the variety and quality of the song's musical accompaniments and the album's
stellar production values has elevated this album to this reviewer's WOW! WHAT
AN ALBUM list.
This reviewer highly recommends
THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN, as a MUST for your Christian music collection, for a variety
reasons which will be explored in the following sections. For
those of you who enjoy a more in-depth review, these sections are just for you!
The lyrics and individual song evaluations are located at the bottom of this page
as usually is the case.
So let's talk more
about Danny Van and Daniel Epp and explore the specifics concerning their new
collection of songs found on THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN.
Danny
Van and Daniel Epp
Lets
review what makes this collection of songs worthy of my "WOW! WHAT AN ALBUM
RATING."
Why was this CD
such a blessing for both the people who created it and for the people who the
music is aimed at? Why will believers, seekers and the lost; in facing life, trials,
troubles or destruction from weakness and addiction, (which covers just about
everyone!) be encouraged, uplifted and "pointed home"?
Danny
Van and Daniel Epp have evolved as artists and in their relationship with the
Lord, AND this shines through their musical efforts....
In
this fourth CD effort, THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN, it is obvious to this reviewer that
their music and their performances have been made even tighter, focused and grounded
in a professional sound uniquely their own, not only because of the many concerts
they have done in their music ministry with groups such as "Celebrate Recovery,"
but also because they rely on the Holy Spirit to inspire and guide them in using
their gifts in song writing, and in performing their music which is exciting to
hear, and a blessing to the listener.
In all
of the 12 songs found on this fine album, Danny Van and Daniel Epp have created
the perfect melody, lyrical message, harmonies and performances for each song
presented, composing in both major and minor keys. Their inspiration from the
Holy Spirit, their years of song writing and collective life experiences has again
resulted in clearly stated lyrics which minister to the listener because they
express the message so well, in meaningful ways.
There
is never a dull, monotonous moment in either the melodies or rhythms of the songs,
which is a problem with some artists whose songs all sound the same. The variety
and strength of the memorable melodies and genre blends mentioned above are always
interesting musically, partly because these song writers, Danny Van and Daniel
Epp are very creative and spirit-filled and partly because their musical accompaniment
can be hot to smoking, or can also be flowing and dynamic, depending the mood
of the composition.
For each lyrical message,
the perfect accompaniment and genre or blended genres was used to provide the
musical vehicle which always supports the meanings and beautifully expresses the
essence and mood of each composition.
The
lyrical messages found in these songs are true to the stated themes found on this
uplifting, hopeful CD. Daniel Epp graciously shared
with ChristianMusic.com, "The themes
of this album seem to be timely. The first and central theme is that in spite
of the hardships and heartaches we have on this side of glory, we also have a
hope…hope that is not dependent on circumstances or the fickle winds of fate.
We have a hope that is built on the unchangeable attributes of a sovereign God
who loves us and calls us each by name."
People
have a dependable source of strength by turning to the Lord.
THIS
SIDE OF HEAVEN * UNCHANGEABLE * AFTER THE STORM *
NEVER GIVE UP * LAY MY BURDEN DOWN
The
freedom, hope, fulfillment and life we have is in Jesus Christ.
YOU
CAUGHT ME * WHAT AM I WAITING FOR * WHO * NO MATTER WHAT
"The
second theme highlights the fact that as long as we live on this side of heaven,
we have kingdom work to do! We all have an assignment that is unique, and that
requires our individual set of skills and experiences. Our greatest fulfillment
in life will come when we discover what on earth we are here for, and begin serving
others with our God-given gifts."
The
Lord has plans for us to carry out for Him, which will result in an inner joy
which nothing can take away.
SEND ME * NOTHING WASTED * ANGELS
WITH ONE WING
Let's talk more about the
Vocals....
Not
only are Danny and Daniel gifted song writers, creating their own lyrics, harmonies
and melodies, they can also deliver powerful, poignant and always effective vocal
performances.
Danny
Van
Danny Van's dynamic vocal expressions,
his octave range, edgy style and breath control is truly a WOW experience. He
very effectively puts his heart and soul into the vocals, effectively using dynamic
expression as well. He surely has the pipes, control and skill to use his vocal
gifts, whether softly or full volume. Add his musical abilities to his uncanny
knack of using just the right performance style to any song, makes him a powerful
asset, which when coupled with Daniel Epp's considerable musical skills, this
partnership has created music for the Lord to use
in promoting HIS Gospel, in SUNDAY SHOES' music ministry.
His
vocals in the anthems especially showcase his talent: NO MATTER WHAT * WHAT AM
I LOOKING FOR? * SEND ME (by Daniel Epp) * UNCHANGEABLE (Music by Daniel Epp),
and AFTER THE STORM (by Daniel Epp). His blues, soul and rock roots shine strongly
in NEVER GIVE UP, CAUGHT ME (Music by Daniel Epp) and LAY YOUR BURDENS DOWN.
Daniel
Epp is also an accomplished vocalist, who also puts his heart and soul into his
performances though in a smoother style. Epp's strong, smooth, melodious tenor
voice, is a delight to listen to as he sings his acoustic based praise, worship
and anthem songs on this album.
ANGEL WITH
BROKEN WING * NOTHING WASTED * WHO
Daniel Epp
also adds much to the harmonies found on the other songs, where Danny performs
the lead vocals. Daniel Epp's vocals add a nice contrast
to Danny Van's vocals, which in turn ads spice and variety to the songs. Their
duets in some of the chorus sections are most enjoyable and add to SUNDAY SHOES
's unique musical sound. The title song, THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN is a great example
of their harmonies.

Exploring the Production
Values...
Danny Van and Daniel Epp were led by the Lord to
some truly gifted and spiritual people which all worked as a unit to create THIS
SIDE OF HEAVEN.
The Lord has led them into
a creative partnership with insightful producers Tom Brooks and Rick Alverez......
From
the fabulous, professional, musical accompaniment heard in all of the songs, it
is obvious that SUNDAY SHOES found two men heaven-sent to co-produce their album
with them. Tom Brooks and Rick Alverez, who truly understand the genres of rock,
blues, soul and contemporary music, did their very best to work with Dan and Daniel
in producing songs which shine and do justice to the special sound and message
of SUNDAY SHOES.
Tom Brooks and Rick Alverez
gathered together the musicians needed for this project, who not only highly qualified
to play the musical parts and in the required style for each song, but can think,
feel and create in the spirit of the composition, both individually and collectively.
WOW!
Daniel recalls, "We were truly blessed
and honored as they shared their musical genius co-producing the album. They assembled
a band that was extraordinarily gifted. But more than the mad skills.....their
humility, humor, servant hearted natures, and "understated-wisdom" are the things
we will never forget. We were happy when the project was in the can, but sorry
to miss the great fellowship we had during those magical days."
The instrumental musicians were excellent,
obviously a very talented group who were a tight ensemble, whose skills bring
life and zing to a wide variety of music, from the driving rock blues found in
LAY MY BURDEN DOWN, to the broader, powerful, dynamic blended anthems, such as
NO MATTER WHAT, UNCHANGEABLE (strings and piano) and WHAT AM I WAITING FOR, as
well as the acoustic-based mellower blended ballads & anthems, such as WHO,
ANGELS WITH ONE WING, and NOTHING WASTED, performed by Daniel Epp.
SUNDAY
SHOES - Studio Band Highlights
Tim
Nienhuis contributed his talents on the acoustic guitar, rhythm guitar,
lead guitar, and slide guitar, which really moves along mightily in the driving,
straight rock blues prayer anthem, LAY MY BURDEN DOWN. Mike Eldred-
played the ripping blues leads on Lay My Burden Down. The combined guitar ensemble
really cooks with spirit and intensity on the interlude and throughout the song.
Smoke must of been coming out of the recording studio.
Gannon
Arnold contributed the fabulous lead guitar part on THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN,
NEVER GIVE UP and on CAUGHT ME, offering some awesome rock and blues rifts in
the interludes; (syncopation and 32nd notes are not a challenge to this musician),
and some bluesy counter melodies and embellishments, throughout the songs.
Title
song: THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN - This solid acoustic-based rock praise and worship
anthem benefits from Arnold's soulful flowing electric guitar part,
which adds the spices of rock, blues and a touch of soul and a zing to this widely
appealing anthem. His work again blends well with the moving acoustic guitar ensemble.
Jason
Mills played rhythm guitar, and Vernon Porter played bass.
With such a talented ensemble of guitar players it is no wonder there is such
a full acoustic voice in Daniel Epp's songs; ANGELS WITH ONE WING, NOTHING WASTED
and WHO, as well as to other blended songs such as THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN and AFTER
THE STORM, which also featured Greg Vail a talented alto sax, soprano
sax player.
Greg Vail's contribution
added so much to AFTER THE STORM, which enhanced this piano-based anthem of encouragement
with a touch of Gospel in the ending VAMP. Vail's sax is also an
asset to the song, WHO, where the sax gives a light and airy sound, which complements
the composition.
One cannot forget the wonderful
drum work on this CD. Tom Dante - played the drums on all tracks
except After the Storm. Drew Hester played the drums on After The
Storm.
Tom Brooks played the
grand piano and B3 parts. This versatile musician plays everything from blues
rock to poignant piano ballads, such as UNCHANGEABLE.
Rick
Alvarez, besides helping to produce the CD, contributed background vocals,
B3 work and the string arrangements. What is refreshing
in the songs where synthesized strings, done by Rick Alverez, are added, the instrument
voices aren't overpowered by an overwhelming string synths sound, which is one
of this reviewers pet peeves. Instead, the string synths sound added to such broad
anthems such as WHAT AM I WAITING FOR offers a strong support to the acoustic
or piano based musical composition, as just the right of blending is done.
My
favorite example is the wonderful blending of the sythns with the piano on the
moving ballad, UNCHANGEABLE, to great dramatic effect, offering the perfect support
to Danny Van's poignant performance, which chokes up this reviewer every time.
The powerful anthem, SEND ME is another shining
example. The song WHO, is another fine example of knowing how to blend a sythns,
with a piano, sax and acoustic guitar.
Kudos
to the composers, the vocal and instrumental performers and the producers and
mixers of the album!

About Sunday Shoes - Danny Van and Daniel Epp - Their Background
Danny
Van and Daniel Epp are well-qualified to reach out and minister through their
music to those in pain, struggling with life and alcohol & drug abuse, as
they had their own struggles with substance abuse in their youth. Sunday Shoes
shared their testimony with ChristianMusic.com in the review of their third album,
SIGNIFICANCE, found on this web-site's Review Index.
Danny
Van shared with ChristianMusic.com: "I grew up in a great Christian
family that loved music. It seemed I learned all about God but never really knew
Him. When I got out of high school, I started a rock band and the Los Angeles
club scene. Hanging out with the wrong crowd, I started experimenting with drugs
and alcohol. After too many years of substance abuse I reached the bottom. That's
when I looked up to Heaven, and spoke that simple prayer, "God, if you are real,
help me." He did and I soon discovered that Jesus wanted to know me personally.
My life has never been the same since."
Daniel Epp shared with ChristianMusic.com: "My experience is
very similar to Danny's. I was raised in the traditional two parent Christian
home with great parents in the suburbs of Los Angeles. I was almost the 'poster
child' for Christian Education until my senior year. I experienced a series of
athletic and relational setbacks that got me down - mostly on myself. I felt rejected
by God and drifted away from the church."
"
In college," Daniel continued, "I began looking for life in all the wrong places
and felt empty as a result. I began trying to mask my disappointments with drugs.
My turning point came after winding up in the emergency room after a weekend party.
I thought very hard for the next few days about how close I came to the edge of
the cliff."
"Right
after that," Daniel explained, "An old friend from my high school called me. He
invited me to go to a concert at Calvary Chapel, a church, according to my friend,
'Where they play rock music and have a preacher who has hair longer than ours!'"
"That night, the pastor shared a verse
from Jeremiah 29:11 that said how God had planned good things, not harmful things,
for my life. When I accepted the Lord on that Saturday, God took my disappointments
and emptiness, and in return gave me joy, purpose and something bigger than myself
to live for. I never had a reason to touch a drug again after that, and despite
my struggles, never have."
It is
an interesting story of how the Lord redirected / prepared Danny Van and Daniel
Epp for a music ministry to bring the Gospel to lost and hurting people, as well
as encouraging us all struggling with life's trials. To
find out more details about this Lord-directed transformation visit SIGNIFICANCE
The
result of this redirection and preparation of Danny Van and Daniel Epp led led
to the forming of SUNDAY SHOES and an adventuresome music ministry began, starting
with their involvement with an international faith-based recovery organization,
"Celebrate Recovery." They were blessed with lyrics and songs from the
Lord's inspiration, which not only encouraged their audiences, but also the listener.
Along the way, SUNDAY SHOES found themselves in the recording studio, creating
albums made up of their own songs, much to the blessing of the listener. Their
debut album was DANCIN' ON THE EDGE, followed by BROKEN GROUND, and SIGNIFICANCE.
ChristianMusic.com
wanted to know, "What has Sunday Shoes been
up to since their release of their third album, SIGNIFICANCE?"
Daniel
answered, "The Lord seems to continue to confirm
our calling to help those struggling to break free from the chains of addictive
and destructive behaviors... as we once did. We find our greatest joy comes from
hearing the stories of lives that were bound for certain destruction, being turned
180 degrees by God's grace and redemptive healing."
Daniel
explains further, "The group we have worked with
the most is Celebrate Recovery, an international faith-based recovery organization.
Founded by a recovered functional alcoholic John Baker, from Saddleback Church,
"CR" is a group of "wounded healers" who have helped thousands of people of all
ages struggling with their own hurts, hang-ups and habits."
Through
this calling, Danny Van and Daniel Epp began to experience the adventure of being
in a musical ministry, blessing others and being blessed, which is what happens
when following the Lord's will for one's life. Over the past seven years, Danny
and Dan have had "the time of their lives performing their roots-rock style
of music and sharing the story of their recovery at over 300 concert events, conferences,
and churches across the U.S. "
Daniel
shares, "As a result of our partnership with this
steadily growing group, we've had to put on their traveling shoes. The past few
years, we've had the time of our lives performing our roots-rock style of music
and sharing our own stories of recovery at hundreds of concert events, conferences
and churches across the United States. The friendships we have made along the
way are priceless."
According
to audience reaction, the Lord is using their music to encourage others in the
Lord. Feedback from recent concert audience members: "God
is changing lives one moment at a time through their ministry. He has changed
mine!"... "They made me feel the joy of the Lord on a down day".
Daniel
Epp listed other highlights experienced in their ministry travels:
* Celebrate Recovery International Summit Conference at Saddleback
Church, Lake Forest, California.
"We
sang for over 3200 Pastors and laypeople from 48 US states and dozens of countries!
It was an amazing time!"
*
Spending the weekend performing at various events in Jacksonville Florida for
Christ Church Mandarin:
"The
highlight of the evening: 'Gather At the River' Concert for nearly 3000 people
on the shores of the St. John's River."
* Hope For Hurting People Conferences in both Myrtle Beach,
South Carolina, and Burlington, North Carolina.
"God
is using theses groups of wounded healers in a powerful way as they reach out
to the communities around them."
*
Weekend performances for Powerline Church in Elon, North Carolina.
"They have a dynamic and growing
biker ministry. It was great hanging out, talking bikes, and getting the chance
to take a full dressed Harley out for a Sunday drive. These guys and girls have
a heart for the Lord and are being used to reach those who are often misunderstood
or avoided by mainstream Christianity. It was truly a pleasure to get to know
them."
Danny Van shares the trust they
both have in the Lord to lead the way, as they serve Him through their music,
not knowing what is next in the Lord's plan for them."Every
time we try to figure God out we're wrong. Now we just show up, get out of the
way, and let Him do his thing."
For
example, much to their amazement, Sunday Shoes recently signed an international
record deal with A-B Records in Brazil. Daniel comments, "Go
figure! For the longest time we had arrived at the place of thinking that the
Lord had called us to be a ministry band, whose purpose was to come along side
local and national groups who needed help. We had long ago stopped pursuing the
fantasy of recording a widely released commercial project inside the "music biz".
Daniel continues, "When
THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN was completed, we were so very pleased with the recording,
that little "mustard seed of faith" showed up again, and we began praying for
the Lord to open a door in Nashville, which only proves how short sighted we usually
are. We were thinking Nashville; God was thinking South America!"
Daniel
reflects, "We have no idea what this all means; A Portuguese
version of our web site? A future playdate in Rio? Who knows. Everything about
"Sunday Shoes" has been unscripted so far. Sometimes that 's a challenge. It's
hard sometimes juggling marriages, families, jobs, and T-ball games, and a music
ministry. But that's also what makes it exciting. We never know what the Lord
has waiting for us just around the corner!"
NOTE:
Be sure to read the scriptural references, which were provided by Danny and Daniel,

* * * + THIS SIDE OF HEAVEN - Words and Music by Daniel E. Epp & Danny VanHofwegen
A
great favorite of this reviewer. This positive anthem gets this album off to a
lively start, setting the tone and mood for the rest of the album. Musically and
lyrically, the song portrays hope and encouragement, through faith in a merciful,
loving Lord. It is an inspiring blend of acoustic, blues, rock and a touch of
pop. Anthem with pep, feeling, energetic vocals and dynamic SUNDAY SHOES harmonies.
Yes, SUNDAY SHOES can sing accapella just fine during the last run through the
chorus - Don't really need the music!

Daniel E. Epp Lyrics by Daniel E. Epp & Danny Van Hofwegen
Another
great favorite of this reviewer. Written in a minor key. An excellent blues, soul
and rock testimonial anthem, with lots of instrumental voices paired with Danny's
dynamic and expressive vocals, and a moving message. Electrical guitar, piano,
bass and guitar support with organ sound, bring this song roaringly to life. Musical
interludes and solos are very enjoyable.

* * * * + LAY MY BURDEN DOWN - Words and music by Daniel E. Epp and Danny W. Van Hofwegen
Great
favorite of this reviewer. This is the perfect prayer-worship
song to introduce the blues-rock genre to people new to this form of music. Driving
blues and rock make a great combination, giving this song umph in spades, complementing
and supporting the fabulous, expressive vocals, by Danny who excels in this format.
Great dynamics in both the smoking accompaniment and the inspiring vocals. Many
elements of blues rock are played superbly by musicians who know what they are
doing, moved by the Spirit, making it seem so easy!

* * *ANGELS WITH ONE WING - ©2005 by Daniel Epp
Strong
favorite of this reviewer. A flowing acoustic anthem, written and performed by
Daniel Epp, which explores how two flawed people can work together to help each
other get through life. A positive look at marriage, which is helpful by dwelling
on the advantages of a relationship. Acoustic and electric guitar ensemble provides
a full sound, providing rhythm, chordal support, counter melodies which support
the melody and nice embellishments. Organ sound offers subtle support.

/ I've got two good feet Standing on the ground / They won't let anyone or anything

I think maybe it's time / I hope you know that //

* * * + WHAT AM I WAITING FOR - by Danny Van Hofwegen & Daniel E. Epp
Another
great favorite. Could be used as an altar call song. Fabulous vocal delivery.
Lots of variety in the music makes this song interesting to listen to, a characteristic
found in most of the songs on this CD! Great musical vehicle for the lyrical message.
Verses in minor key - chorus in major key. Enjoyed the syncopation and build up
in the Bridge. Composition of this broad anthem ballad does a great job of blending
piano, organ sound, acoustic guitar, strings sythns, and uses dynamics to deliver
emotional punch very effectively in both the vocals and the accompaniment.

I've

/ More than what I am / The hunger deep inside me / Cuts just like a knife / And

CHORUS:
What am I waiting for / What am I waiting for / I've got everything I need /And
so much more / Standing at my door / What am I waiting for //
The
things that I've held on to / Are scattered in the wind / And every word that
once defined me / Now seem paper-thin / But standing in this desert / With compassion
in his eyes / Is the one who offers living water / From the well that won't run
dry //

All the clouds have lifted / The truth is shinning bright / Now my heart is burning

* * * + AFTER THE STORM- ©2005 by Daniel Epp
(Dedicated to the survivors and families of the victims of hurricane Katrina)
Another
great favorite, with a message anyone in a struggle / trial would be blessed with.
Begins with a fine, breezy, light hopeful, sax / piano introduction. Inspiring
dynamic, contemporary anthem, with a glorious melody, an easy beat, inspiring
soulful sax, piano and guitar ensemble support, with enjoyable nice dynamic changes
throughout, especially between verses and chorus. Along with the blues and soul
and contemporary influences, Gospel influences add some sparkle throughout and
especially in the last time through the chorus and into the VAMP, ending the song
on an uplifting note! Vocals and harmonies are perfectly executed, sung with a
positive, reassuring attitude. Danny makes the hard intervals sound effortless.

* * * + NOTHING WASTED - by Daniel Epp and Danny VanHofwegen
Favorite
song of this reviewer sung by Daniel Epp. Lovely, smooth anthem featuring the
piano, acoustic guitar, electrical guitar sparkles, and light strings, with nice
harmonies and smooth vocals.
Scriptural References: (2 Cor.1:2-4, Psalm 71:23 & 23:2-4, Isaiah 43:1 & 44:22 & 38:16, 1 Peter1:17-19)
Lyrics:
Every tear we cry / From loneliness and pain / Are
stored in heaven's reservoir / And there they will remain / Every tattered thread
/ From our unraveled dreams / Are woven with his love / Into a tapestry //
How
it works is always / A mystery to me / Everything has value / In God's economy
//
CHORUS: There's nothing wasted / Nothing
wasted anymore / Everything will be redeemed / Everything restored / Even bitter
things become beautiful / In the hands of the Lord / There's nothing wasted anymore
//
The man who's been released / From the
bottle's heavy chains / Now can help the one / Who wants to make a change / The
woman who was robbed / And has found the grace to live / Now can reach the one
/ Too angry to forgive //
So it always goes
/ In the family of the King / Through the scars of one / Another is redeemed
CHORUS:
Nothing
wasted anymore / Nothing wasted / Nothing wasted anymore / Nothing wasted

* * * NO MATTER WHAT - by Daniel Epp and Danny VanHofwegen
Strong
favorite of this reviewer. Rousing Praise and Worship anthem which is perfect
for any contemporary service. Makes a strong statement in intro with piano and
organ sound. Quiets down to a guitar accompaniment in the first verse. Sound builds
to the chorus. Nice SUNDAY SHOES harmonies in vocals. Love the memorable melody,
which modulates nicely up a key into the chorus. The heart felt vocals soar over quite a vocal range, showing great voice and breath
control. (Danny holds notes at full volume for 2, 4 beat measures in the chorus).

* * * * + SEND ME - 2005
by Daniel Epp/ASCAP (April 17/2005-Dedicated to all the members of Saddleback
Church who are enlisted in the P.E.A.C.E. Plan)
Second
favorite anthem sung by Danny Van. Acoustic based anthem which is written in a
flowing 3/4 meter in a minor key. Composition is bolstered with strings nicely
done on synths. Again great dynamics, great vocals and strong harmonies in the
chorus. Quiets down beautifully in the Bridge, which builds beautifully into the
chorus.

Lyrics:
In Rwanda there's a mother / With tears in her eyes
/ And she prays to the God of heaven / As her little baby cries / And the voice
of the Lord goes out / And it echoes again and again / Who will feed this hungry
child / "Who will I send? //
CHORUS: Send me
To the hopeless / And let me fill the need / Send me to the captive / And help
me set them free / I've looked away before / But this time I hear you Lord / Here
I am, here I am / Send me //
In South Africa
there's a father / And he falls down to his knees / As he holds his little boy's
body / Ravaged by disease / And he cries to the God of heaven / And His voice
goes out again / Who will give him a cup of kindness / "Who will I send?

If you've done it for the least of these / You've done it unto me (repeat) //

Epp Lyrics by Daniel Epp & Danny Van Hofwegen
2nd
Favorite song sung by Daniel Epp. A Smooth, flowing, lovely Praise and Worship
piano ballad with inspired support from strings, and a light and airy sax, which
plays an infectious counter melody, supporting the main melody. Nice changes in
the melody found in the Chorus and Bridge. Adore the chorus, with SUNDAY SHOES
harmonies.
Lyrics and their delivery are truly
meaningful, bringing a message of faith and hope which we have in the Lord.

Lyrics:
Who is the one who taught the eagle / To spread her
wings and fly / Who is the one who put the sparkle / In a little baby's eye /Who
told the crashing waves / You can only go so far / Happy to say / I know just
who you are //
CHORUS: You are the one who
is / Who was and who is yet to come / You're my Shepherd-Redeemer / God's one
and only son / You are the only one / Who could make my life brand new / You are
the one and only one / That's who //
Who is
the one who fills the sky / With a starry-starry night / And who covers the mountain
top / With a coat so snowy white / Who tells the sun and moon / When to set and
when to rise / Each day the answer is right before my eyes //
BRIDGE:
I don't rely on feelings / My faith is based on fact / It's as real as the world
around me / And there's no denying that //

* * * * + + UNCHANGEABLE - copyright
2005 Music by Daniel Epp Lyrics by Daniel Epp and Danny Van Hofwegen
*
Favorite song of this reviewer on this CD. Wow, what a moving song! This poignant,
beautiful, dynamic piano-strings ballad would be welcome anywhere! Some of its
memorable characteristics are the perfect mixing of the piano and the lovely string
part which adds so much, the glorious dynamics, and the moving, infectious melody,
which has interesting modulations, especially in the chorus and in the ending
which finally modulates to a major key, indicating the hope we have in our loving
Lord. The presentation of the musical composition using the piano and strings
as the main instrumental voices are all powerful allies to the vocal and lyrical
presentation, so lovingly performed with conviction by Danny Van. Danny puts his
heart and soul into the main vocals, providing a poignant delivery to a very special
song; the perfect selection to end this uplifting, encouraging CD which truly
"points us home."

Lyrics:
When the ground I thought was solid / Turns to sinking
sand / When the dream that I was holding /Slips right through my hands / When
I can't say for certain / Things will turn out right / It's good to know for sure
/ That something in my life //
CHORUS: (Is)
Unchangeable / Lord your love won't fade away / It's Unbreakable / Like the promise
that you made / The hope I have in you / Can never be erased / Lord I know your
goodness and your grace / Are unshakable / Unbreakable / Unchangeable //
When
the walls of my protection / Start to tumble down / When the one that I once trusted
/ Is nowhere to be found / When my heart is broken / And the tears come down like
rain / It sure does help to know / That one thing will remain //
(Repeat
Chorus Twice)
VAMP: Unchangeable / Unbreakable
