About Silers Bald

After several successful years on the independent circuit, acoustic pop/rock band Silers Bald finally makes its national debut with Essential Record's Real Life in 2003. Shane Williams (vocals, guitar, piano), Warren Bazemore (guitar, vocals), Jason Jacobs (drums), and Marcus Myers (bass, hammer dulcimer, violin) call themselves "Silers Bald" because it marks a place of rest and shelter along the beautiful Appalachian Trail. Just like this destination point, band members hope their music offers the comfort of home and the clarity of an unencumbered view.

Silers Bald began in 1996 with Bazemore and Williams, when, after playing old rock and roll songs in their dorm room at the University of South Carolina, a large crowd assembled outside their balcony to listen. Soon, this interest on campus led to them playing at a nearby coffeehouse. About 300 friends and fans gathered to hear the popular duo. That night, Jason Jacobs (drums) joined for the first time, using borrowed plastic bongos and a tambourine. A year later, accomplished violinist/dulcimer player Marcus Myers was added, and Silers Bald was complete.

During their seven year independent run, Silers Bald performed an average of 150 shows a year in at least 27 states, rotated a few bass players, went through five touring vehicles, and released four independent projects that sold in excess of 40,000 records. In 2002, though, the close-nit band began feeling they had reached their peak and started looking for some new direction. The Silers Bald band committed their future to the Lord, as He was the one who had led them this far.

About this time, Cliff Young of Caedmon's Call approached the band and helped them land a recording contract with Essential Records. Their debut album, which features Caedmon's Call members, was soon released. This enthusiastic CD is filled with the sounds of electric and acousitc guitars, synthesizers, and a fiddle, flute, saxaphone, piano, and hammered dulcimer. Band members hope this album encourages listeners to live the life God has for them and not be swayed or intimidated by society's view of life.

Since their debut release, Silers Bald can be found touring with labelmate Andrew Peterson and playing at various summer camps and weekend retreats. While performing, Silers Bald does not follow a set agenda. They instead prefer to let each unique atmosphere dictate where the night goes, while always taking time for plenty of converstaion.
