MORE ABOUT ANDY AND HIS ART

lakey

Artist Andy Lakey dies (October 4, 2012) at the age of 52,
leaving behind a message of unconditional love through his artwork.

Andy Lakey was one of the most famous painters of angels in the world, and perhaps the first painter whose work can be experienced by the blind as well as the sighted.

Lakey was also one of our brightest emerging post-Modern masters. His vibrant, nuanced work fuses Renaissance art, the ancient and tribal arts of Egypt, Mesoarnerica and North American Indians with the 20thcentury: the Surrealists, Paul Klee, Jackson Pollock, Louise Nevelson, Keith Haring, and others.

At first appreciated as a painter whose tactile acrylic designs could be "seen" by the blind via touch, Lakey and celebrity collectors began to donate canvases to hospitals, clinics and lighthouses for the blind. In fact, Lakey would attain a high degree of fame for his art and philanthropy -- long before his first solo show. Today Lakey's work is sought out by museums, Presidents, and down-to-earth collectors alike."
